Mwawi’s team struggling

Shooter Mwawi Kumwenda has proved to be the sole shining light in an otherwise dark campaign for her New Zealand netball side Mainland Tactix, who are winless in seven games this season.

Kumwenda leads the scoring for Tactix and she is second on the golden boot chase, but the challenge is that the team is stuck in the bottom of the table for the two-stream New Zealand and Australia league. Each stream comprises five teams.

“I know some of the girls are injured. We will try our best to win the remaining games so that we can finish the season on a better note,” the discarded Queens shooter said yesterday.

While her team is limping, Kumwenda can have no qualms with her individual performances in the 2015 season.

This is the case as the shooter has, so far, a 91.2 percent scoring accuracy having converted 229 out of 251 attempts.

The Malawian is only bettered by Cathrine Latu’s 94.3 percent gleaned from 182 conversions out of 193 attempts at goal. The list has 10 best shooters with Carla Bailey being the least efficient at 78.9 percent having netted 236 in 299 attempts.

Kumwenda has registered 16 rebounds on the list of 10 top players with rebounds. Romelda Aitken leads on 44 rebounds.
