Kumwenda’s hat-trick steers St Andrew’s League summit
Dumisani Kumwenda scored a hat-trick on Wednesday to help St Andrew’s International High School thrash Ndirande Hill Secondary School 3-0 and take charge of Saints Under-20 Soccer League.
Kumwenda, who mesmerised fans with his dribbling skills, banked three goals within the last 30 minutes to make up for the penalty he missed in the first-half.
His effort has put the ‘Saints’ on top of the six-team log table with six points from two straight victories.
When the league kicked off last week, the outfit beat Namalimwe Community Day Secondary School 2-1.
PlaySoccer team, which triumphed 1-0 over Namalimwe on Wednesday through Mervin Chidzulo’s lone strike, are second on the ladder with four points, as they drew 2-2 with St Eagles FC in their first match.
St. Eagles are third on the table with four points as well. They won their first match 3-2 against log-table anchors Ndirande Hill, who have no point from two games.
Fourth-placed Namalimwe found solace in beating Chitawira Rangers 3-1 who are on position five.
According to St Andrew’s sports manager and events coordinator Moffat Champiti, the contest, which aims at uplifting youth football in Blantyre, will run for two months.
