Thieves terrorising Area 25 clinic
Thieves are said to be terrorising Area 25 clinic because part of the fence collapsed following heavy rains last year, The Nation has learnt.
Chief obstetrician at the hospital Loyce Chikosi said there are many challenges that the clinic is facing.
She said: “We have several problems here, including power outages, lack of equipment and drug shortages. When we have black outs we use candles to help women deliver, but this put at risk the lives of mothers since we cannot detect a tear or other complications. Apart from these problems we also live in fear because of thieves who get access to the hospital through a broken fence.”
Chikosi was speaking when she received assorted items from Seleman Investment, a wholesale business based in Lilongwe Old Town on Saturday.
Seleman Investments public relations officer Edwin Mauluka said they decided to visit Area 25 clinic because it assists some of its customers who live in the area.
He said: “On the issue of the fence we will see what we can do, but I want to plead with other companies to also come here and assist.”n
