Nkhata Bay adopts transparency, accountability scoreboard
Nkhata Bay District Council has adopted a transparency and accountability scoreboard mechanism to facilitate smooth execution of health-related budgets.
The mechanism has been developed with technical and financial support from Mamaye, a life-saving campaign aimed at addressing maternal, neonatal and child health.
Speaking on the sidelines of a two-day Intensive Transparency, Accountability and Budgetary Training on Tuesday, Mamaye country lead Mathias Chatuluka urged council members to be transparent throughout their budgetary processes. He said this would buy trust from potential financers.
“Let us involve the general citizenry as much as possible so that our budgets are inclusive and reflective of the picture on the ground,” he said.
Chatuluka urged council members to share information, saying a survey his organisation conducted scored Nkhata Bay badly in information sharing.
Nkhata Bay district commissioner Alex Mdooko welcomed the adoption, saying it will revitalise budget formulation and finance management processes. n
