Silver vow to end Nomads’ record

Silver Strikers coach Lovemore Fazili has vowed to end Be Forward Wanderers tradition of winning every new trophy in the country when the two sides face off in the Airtel Top 8 final this Saturday.

Nomads were the first team to win Chibuku, Carlsberg, Presidential, FAM cups and last season the Fisd Challenge Cup.

Wanderers will now be hoping to continue with the trend by winning the maiden Airtel Top 8 when they meet Silver.

Speaking after beating Kamuzu Barracks 5-3 through post-match penalties in the semi-final on Saturday, Fazili said the tradition of Wanderers winning every new trophy is history.

“We are not fazed by that tradition because it’s just history now. We are going into the match to win and end Wanderers’ record,” he said.

Silver have suffered final heartbreak at the hands of Wanderers, the latest being last season when they were beaten in the Carlsberg Cup.

But Fazili said they are going out for revenge: “We have been losing to Wanderers in recent final meetings. This time, we are going out for revenge. It is our time, I believe,” he said.

But Wanderers coach Yasin Osman described Silver’s threats as psychological warfare while pledging to sustain the Nomads tradition.

“We want to protect our record of winning every new trophy. However, we are also mindful of the fact that, like us, Silver will also want to win this trophy. We expect stiff opposition and we will have to be resilient,” he said.
