18 teams tussle in Airtel volleyball tourney
Eighteen teams will participate in Airtel Volleyball National Championship slated for June 30 in Lilongwe.
Airtel Malawi has sponsored the three-day competition to the tune of K2.5 million.
According to Volleyball Association of Malawi (VAM) general secretary Jairosi Nkhoma, 10 teams will compete in the men’s category while the women’s section will have eight.
“The hosting region will contribute four teams in each category. The South and North will contribute two women teams and three men teams each,” he said.
Nkhoma commended Airtel for the support.
Kamuzu Barracks are the defending champions while Lilongwe Spikers were the runners-up.
In women’s category, Blue Eagles are the champions while Moyale Barracks scooped second position.
Kamuzu Barracks captain McGodwin Mangani said they are determined to defend the title.
