Huawei for Malawi secure cyberspace

High-tech firm Huawei Technologies says with Malawi’s rapid adoption of new technologies, which presents both opportunities and challenges in cybersecurity, there is a need for the country to anticipate and address such risks with innovations like mobile banking and digital government services.

In a release, the firm says proactive strategies, including integrating security into the development of new technologies, can help reduce vulnerabilities and bolster resilience against cyber threats.

It says: “Collaboration will be essential in tackling the complex nature of cyber threats. Huawei actively tackles cybersecurity challenges through transparent partnerships with governments, customers and industry partners.

“It further builds local partnerships, engaging in information-sharing initiatives and aligning with international cybersecurity standards which will contribute to a safer digital environment for Malawi.”

The firm further notes that all this boils down to the needs of the digital age where information flows freely and connectivity expands rapidly. “As digital infrastructure develops and more Malawians engage with online platforms, the need to safeguard our digital spaces becomes paramount. Recent global trends show a rising wave of cyberattacks, and Malawi is not immune to these threats, which target governments, businesses, and individuals alike,” the release said further.

Huwaei, which opened its global Cyber Security and Privacy Protection Transparency Centre in Dongguan, China, in June 2021, says the centre offers a platform for global stakeholders to collaborate, marking a significant step in sharing product security frameworks and management practices with the industry.
“As a global leader in information and communications technology, Huawei Technologies underscores cybersecurity as a crucial strategic priority. We have established an end-to-end cybersecurity assurance system, aligning with applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices,” it said.

According to the release, the system integrates corporate policies, organisational structure, business processes, technology, and standard practices, and is continually optimised.

This reality, it adds, underscores the urgent necessity for a strengthened cybersecurity posture and a proactive approach to digital safety.
