Maso Awards in Blantyre on December 28

Maso Awards organisers have announced that the eventwill be held on December 28 at Comesa Hall in Blantyre.

Speaking at a press briefing in Blantyre on Monday, the organisation’s public relations officer  Syv Symon said the event will celebrate critical contributions of artists in categories such as music, poetry, fashion, comedy and visual arts.

“We are excited to present the theme of this year’s awards, which is ‘Towards arts export for socio-economic development’,” he said.

Maso Awards chief executive officer and executive producer Augustine Mukisi reflected on the awards’ remarkable growth since its inception in 2019.

From a WhatsApp-based initiative, it hosted its first in-person ceremony in 2021.

Said Mukisi: “Maso Awards has grown into one of the biggest music and arts awards in Malawi, demonstrating resilience, passion and deep commitment to advancing the entertainment arts in Malawi

“The awards have brought healthy competition in the industry, motivating artists to produce quality work that can be exported.”

He said the process will comprise nominations and voting. The public and industry experts will nominate deserving artists online, followed by public voting for shortlisted nominees on the Maso Awards website www.maso-awards.live.com.

Symon assured the public of transparency and accountability in the voting and nomination processes, emphasising that the awards are based on public opinion.

“The public decides who has done well in the arts and entertainment industry,” he said.
