Afro reggae nights start May 11
The launch was postponed from April 13 to give respect to the late president Bingu wa Mutharika who passed away on April 5.
The initial show was expected to feature Chileka reggae group Black Missionaries, alongside dancing machine Skeffa Chimoto and his Real Sounds Band.
Lucius Banda and Zembani Band were expected to set the stage ablaze last Friday.
Village headman Somanje Makata, who claimed to head Malawi’s biggest village pegged at a population of 50 000 registered villagers, on Saturday confirmed the reggae nights will be launched on May 11.
“We had to respect the demise of our leader, but May 11 we are going full-throttle with activities every Friday night at the venue. Apart from the live bands, we will also bring sensational DJ Sensational while bringing Ital [vegetarian food],” said Makata.
According to him, funds realised from the nights will be used to assist orphans in his village.
