The launch of the Countrywide Social Football Tournament has been shifted from today to next Friday to pave the way for renovations on the College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex pitch after the People’s Party (PP) convention last weekend.

According to the competition’s organiser Henry Mwale, the draw and the start of the competition will take place on the same day.

“The pitch has to be put back into shape for the launch. Representatives of the registered teams should attend the function next week,” said Mwale.

So far, 16 teams have registered for the annual contest and six more teams are expected to complete the list of participating.

Megabytes Solutions are the defending champions of the contest which has been running since 2009.

The corporate teams already registered include Arkay Plastics Socials, Superior Halaal Butcheries, Indebank, Old Mutual, Packaging Industries, Welcome Trust, Beit Cure International, MRA, Universal Industries, Masm, Rab Processors, Megabytes Solutions, MSB, CoM, Nedbank and Macra.

The contest will see winners, runner-ups and third-placed teams pocketing K380 000 (about $1 520), K240 000 ($960) and K140 000 (about $560) respectively. Quarter-finalists will receive K25 000 ($100) each.
