‘Malawi a gem of Africa’

The International Council of Tourism Partners (ICTP) on Thursday announced that Malawi has become a destination member, a move which is expected to boost tourists traffic to the country.

Malawi becomes the sixth country from Africa to join the grouping since its recent inception.

ICTP is a new grassroots travel and tourism coalition of global destinations committed to quality service and green growth.

The organisation engages communities and their stakeholders to share quality and green opportunities including tools and resources, access to funding, education and marketing support.

ICTP advocates sustainable aviation growth, streamlined travel formalities, and fair coherent taxation.

ICTP chairperson Juergen Thomas Steinmetz said in a statement: “Malawi is a gem of Africa. The people of Malawi are known for their warmth and hospitality and is the reason the country is nicknamed the Land of Smiles. With its diverse geography and unique culture, it is fitting for Malawi’s Department of Tourism to become a destination member of ICTP.
