Absence of bridge paralyses development in Dedza

People of Chagunda in group village head Ndindi in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kachindamoto in Dedza district have complained that the absence of a bridge at Nambuna River is affecting development in the area.

They said the bridge is the only link to other areas to access social amenities such as health services, schools and market, among others.

Speaking at Chagunda Junior Private Primary School on Saturday during a meeting National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust organised for community members and duty-bearers, village head Chagunda said he was worried that the absence of the bridge is negatively affecting the area.

“At 52 years of independence, it is a pity and worrisome that we don’t have any primary school here except this junior primary school which was donated by Mr and Mrs Matipwiri and Fathers from Mua Catholic Parish after noticing our plight,” said the chief.

He also said that the area is prone to cholera outbreak, and appealed for support from the duty-bearers.

Dedza district commissioner (DC) James Kanyangalazi assured the community that the council will respond to their concern.

Nice district civic education officer for Dedza Patrick Siwinda said his organisation will continue facilitating such meetings to help communities voice out their concern to ensure that development spreads.n
