ActionAid programmes officer in Ntchisi, Ibrahim Nthalika, said his organisation has embarked on the initiative to inculcate a reading culture among pupils.

“This initiative is the first of its kind in the district and we strongly believe that it is going not only to motivate the learners but also instil confidence in public speaking and self-esteem for both boys and girls,” he said.

ActionAid later splashed different prizes to outstanding pupils and schools ranging from football and netball uniforms, school bags, writing materials, balls and sanitary-related equipment.

Coordinating primary education adviser for Ntchisi, Hammex Malithano, applauded ActionAid for the timely initiative, saying it will promote a hard-working spirit to both learners and teachers thereby also improving education quality in the district.
