Actor John Dumelo confirms Malawi visit
As Malawi meets Ghana on the runway in a rare fashion event, Accra-based celebrated actor-cum-fashion line owner John Dumelo has confirmed his impending trip to the country.
Dumelo launches his clothing line J. Melo in Lilongwe at an event dubbed Malawi Fashion Weekend scheduled for June 5 at Bingu International Conference Centre.
On the ramp, he will face arguably Malawi’s star designer Lilly Alfonso as well as up and coming creator, Nelly Donga George of Nelly’s designs.
Dumelo has confirmed his coming to Malawi through social media, Facebook as he exclaimed on Tuesday: “See you Malawi on the 5th of June!” The same message was replicated in an exclusive video message where he is urging people to take care.
Alfonso is excited with the idea of holding a fashion event with one of the fashion capitals in Africa.
“The event will showcase diverse collections fit for casual, office and clothes for all events for both men and women. John Dumelo, who is on a tour of southern Africa, will launch his clothesline. It will be a small evening event which will have a lasting impression on the Malawi fashion scene.
“As a fashion designer I am not only excited that an artist of such calibre is coming to Malawi. I am overwhelmed with the fact that we will learn something from him and certainly, where ever he goes, he will talk about the country, not only in fashion sense but everything that makes Malawi complete,” said a thrilled Alfonso.
While in the country, Dumelo is also expected to attend the launch of a music video by former Big Brother Malawi representative Sipe who has dropped her first single, Chikondi ndi Ndalama.
Meanwhile, Alfonso is in Amsterdam, Netherlands for a fashion event and workshop where she will be the key speaker.
