The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (Adra) Malawi, in a response to President Peter Mutharika’s call to help flood victims, has mobilised K240 million (US$509 554) to alleviate the suffering of those affected.

Adra Malawi deputy country director Michael Usi said in an interview on Monday that the organisation has mobilised the resources from Adra Denmark, Adra Sweden, Seventh Day Adventist Church in Malawi, among other partners.

He said the K240 million raised so far would be channelled to the flood victims nationwide through government departments and existing structures put up by international organisations such as World Food Programme (WFP) and Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

Usi said while almost all organisations were concentrating on relief items distribution, it was important for faith-based groups to organise prayers for the victims and health-based organisations to think of providing counselling to the psychologically affected flood victims.

Mutharika declared Malawi a State of Disaster and appealed to individuals, organisations and the international community to assist.
