The Advancement for Girls’ Education (AGE) Africa has urged parents and guardians to propagate a culture of promoting and educating the girl child so that they achieve their desired goals.

AGE Africa programme coordinator Mphatso Zidana made the call on Saturday when his organisation launched the girls’ education programme at Songani CDSS and Nsondole CDSS in Zomba Rural.

Among other things, the programme aims at giving scholarships to the girls and also supporting them on their daily school and personal needs. This includes the provision of school supplies, bursaries, groceries, sanitary wears and boarding supplies. The programme is targeting about 150 student beneficiaries.

He said: “With this programme, we are so excited that there is growing rate of girls completing their education in the areas we have been operating. You may wish to know that the number of retained girls also features high in our programme. This shows that the programme has brought some impact to the communities on the importance of educating girls.

“It is from this that we shall stand proud of having educated women in future, which is good for the economic development of the country.”

AGE Africa gets support from well-wishers in the United States of America (USA).
