Revered local female boxer Agnes Mtimaukanena-Mwando hosts Joyce Awino from Kenya tomorrow evening at Robin’s Park in Blantyre in a six-round non-title welterweight bout.

“I am still in the process of recovery, but it is no big deal. I am absolutely certain that come Friday, I should be in shape for the bout,” said Awino who loosened up on Tuesday afternoon before resuming serious training at Pro-Fitness Gym yesterday morning.

Awino, 26, claims to have won three of her five professional bouts, losing the other two. But statistics on Boxingrec and Boxstat.com show that she lost all her three bouts, twice to Florence Muthoni and once to Judy Waguthii.

Mtimaukanena-Mwando, 23, yesterday said she has intensified her preparations and is looking for nothing short of victory.

The former World Boxing Federation (WBF) light-middleweight champion has a record of five wins, two losses and a draw. She basks in the glory of being the only Malawian female boxer to have won an international award.
