AIRTEL RESCUES KARONGA MUSEUM’S ROOF

However, lady luck smiled on the people of Karonga on Wednesday and they could not help but celebrate the moment leading mobile telecommunications operator Airtel Malawi donated MK2.5million towards the much needed roof rehabilitation.

Presenting the donation in Karonga, Airtel’s Corporate Social Responsbility’s Manager Norah Chavula said Airtel realises that history, arts and culture are a rich heritage that anchors national pride hence Malawi cannot afford to lose such a rich national monument.

“A museum is a source of our identity, happiness, self-awareness, pride and recreation. This is an institution and bedrock that should be defended at all costs for it to continue receiving dedicated support from various arts, historical and cultural clienteles.

“We believe that our involvement in rehabilitating the damaged roof of this museum is an opportunity, an adventure and a great journey of discovery of national pride,” narrated Chavula.

She then called on management and staff of the Museum to be vibrant in marketing the monument thereby attracting the much needed patronage and increasing its visibility.

“Fellow Malawians, it begins with us, let us take pride in promoting and supporting our historical, cultural and artistic national artefacts,” she said.

In his remarks, Board Chair of the Cultural and Museum Centre Karonga Archibald Mwakasungula noted that Airtel’s donation had determined the brand’s passion for the roots of national pride.

Mwakasungula, who is also Chair of Uraha Foundation Malawi further said as a country, Malawi needed to underline its history by among other things, cherishing and investing national monuments.

“Airtel is a true friend, a passionate brand. We truly thank you for being the only corporate player that has come to our rescue in this massive manner. It is high time we took it upon to restore our nation’s dignity,” he said.

Karonga Museum hosts the one and only dinosaur, dubbed Malawisaurus, which lived in the area over 25 million years ago.
