Albino abductor commits suicide
Joseph Andiwochi, 19, who was last Thursday arrested in Machinga has committed suicide. He jumped from a moving police vehicle on Tuesday morning on his way to Zomba where he was expected to appear before court to answer abduction charges.
Machinga Police has confirmed the incident which occured near Mandevu Farms, a kilometre from Machinga Boma.
According to a police statement, Andiwochi was being taken to Zomba Senior Resident Magistrates Court to enter plea in an abduction case.
The suspect who was under police escort jumped from a moving vehicle.
According to Machinga Police, Andiwochi and two other accomplices allegedly abducted a two -year-old albino girl at Muluku Village, Sub Chief Mchinguza in the district.
The abducted girl was in the company of her ten year old sister who is also an albino.
The older sister raised the alarm that compelled villagers to pursue the abductors until Andiwochi was apprehended while his accomplices Kamanga Likhutu and Sinoya Likhutu fled and are still at large.
A postmortem at Machinga District Hospital indicated that Andiwochi died due to severe head injuries.
