An eleven year old albino boy is battling for his life at Karonga District hospital, after two men kidnapped him and tried to cut his throat and right arm at Ipyana, in the district.

In an interview  today, Karonga police spokesperson Enock Livason identified the two suspects as Fiskani Mtambo, 35, from Mukwavi Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Mwenewenya in Chitipa and Sam Wamisi Kaumba, 32,   from Cheyama Village, T/A Kyungu in Karonga.

Livason said on the day of the incident, the two suspects persuaded the boy to accompany them to a nearby market to collect a chicken which his mother had bought, but had ill-motives.

Said Livason: “It so happened that when they got to Ipyana, the two dragged him to a nearby forest and started cutting his throat and arm.

“Lucky enough, the boy cried for help and well-wishers came to his rescue, but the two suspects managed to escape and we only arrested them after investigations the same day at night.”

Livason said the boy was left with deep cuts on the arm and throat and is admitted at Karonga district hospital. He said the boy’s situation is improving.

According to Livason, the two will appear in court soon to answer the charge of kidnapping or abducting in order to murder, contrary to section 261 of the Penal Code.

The charge attracts a maximum sentence of ten years imprisonment with hard labour.

Last month, an unidentified men exhumed the bones of an albino who died in 2009 around the same area.

Livason said investigations are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.
