Northern Region Boxing Committee (NRBC) has organised a bout at Obrigado Leisure Park in Mzuzu that will see amateur boxers turning professional on Sunday.
Among boxers targeted for promotion is 20-year-old Raston ‘Poison’ Kayira who will need to beat Malani Kayuni, 23, to attain the new rank.
“Kayira who has fought 26 rounds to reach the semi-professional status, will take on lightweight professional boxer Malani Kayuni to step into professional boxer class,” NRBC chairperson Stewart Moyo told The Nation on Wednesday.
According to Moyo, the non-title qualification event will attract other youthful boxers in the region.
“Of course, the fight aims at assessing Kayira, but we also have supporting boxers such as Tamiwe Chisolo and Patrick William whom the committee will also assess if they are making the grade to take Kayira’s place in the event that he makes it into professional ranks,” said Moyo.
The event is sponsored by G and G Boxing Promotion.
