Surestream Academy and Under-20 blossoming midfielder Ernest Tambe attended trials at South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) side Bloemfontein Celtic last week.

He was the third Junior Flames player to undergo trials in the Rainbow Nation within a month after Big Bullets defender Miracle Gabeya and Silver Strikers forward Chawanangwa Kawonga at Celtic and Maritzburg United respectively.

Surestream Academy technical director Peter Mponda confirmed releasing Tambe last week.

“They [Celtic] have been inquiring about the boy since last year, but we asked them to hold on as he was still in the process of development. After watching him during the Under-20 national team games, they revived the pursuit and we agreed to release him,” said Mponda.

Mponda said Celtic indicated that they would want to offer Tambe a pre-contract depending on the outcome of the assessment.

Tambe was expected to return home yesterday ahead of the Junior Flames camp training which resumes tomorrow.

Celtic already has two Malawian internationals Limbikani Mzava and Frank ‘Gabadinho’ Mhango in their playing squad.
