Anyoni, Piksy steal spotlight at Likoma Islanders event

Urban musician Piksy staged some of his popular songs at a cultural event organised by Likoma Islanders.

During a performance of some of his popular songs such as Tsoka Liyenda, Uncle Short One, Kumudzi and Ponya Mwendo, veteran comedian Elson Soko, alias Anyoni, could not help but join in the fun.

Piksy and Anyoni poked fun at each other as the comedian labelled the musician ‘tholo’ while Piksy picked on the veteran comedian’s height.

The headliners of the show did not disappoint either as their display of the island’s dances of malipenga and chioda were on point.

Dressed in white knee-high stockings, white shoes, khaki shorts and white shirts, the troupes of England Boma, Zomba Boma and College Boma performed their routine with precision and displayed volumes of Tonga swag.

The course sound of malipenga, the beat of massive two manned drum and the metallic sound of the two hoes complemented the dance moves of the neat Islanders.

The event was, however, marred by low patronage as there was a funeral of a fellow islander in Blantyre and, being a small island, some prospective patrons attended the funeral.
