President Peter Mutharika yesterday branded the Northern Region members of Parliament (MPs) Caucus as a bunch of failures who are deliberately choosing not to see the many development projects that his government is implementing in the region.

Some MPs in the North are criticising government for what they call failure to provide enough developments in the region, nepotism and continued application of quota system in selecting students to public universities.

The MPs have since formed a caucus to fight for the developments of the region.

But speaking yesterday when he toured tarmac roads government is constructing in Mzuzu, Mutharika said his government is committed to developing the North.

He said there are many projects taking place and some will start soon.

Mutharika also said the critics are strangers living outside Malawi, and probably somewhere on the moon.

He cited the Mzuzu-Nkhata Bay Road, Njakwa-Chitimba Road, and the roads in Mzuzu as some of developments his government promised and are underway.

He said all the roads will be completed, adding that he wants all roads in Mzuzu to be tarmacked by 2019.

“Very soon we will start the Karonga-Songwe Road. So, if someone says there are no developments in the North, they are blind, they can’t see or they live somewhere else on the moon,” said Mutharika.

DPP regional governor for the North, Kenneth Sanga, called on the President not to mind the MPs’ caucus, saying they are a group of failures who cannot appreciate what development is all about.

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Kondwani Nankhumwa said members of the caucus are only trying to turn against residents of the city by saying there are no developments. n
