Artists bring Valentine on the door

Valentine’s Day is here once again and as per tradition, artists across the country have scheduled love-themed events to spice up the day.

Lovers will especially be kept busy in the cities of Lilongwe and Blantyre where high-profile events have been lined up in the spirit and mood of Valentine’s Day celebrations.

Ready to perform in Malawi: Mussa

In Lilongwe, couples are expected to share the special moment at a Valentine’s dinner and dance at Café House in Area 12 where South African singer Musa will entertain patrons with a live performance.

One of the organisers of the event, musician Lawi in an interview yesterday said the platform is meant to give couples a chance to appreciate the value of the people in their lives.

“We live with people every day and this day highlights our appreciation of them. The idea is that through this event we share a reminder that our appreciation for them should go beyond this day,” he said.

The Lilongwe-based artist said the event is tailor-made with the love theme that will be reflected even in the songs that will be performed.

Lawi said Musa will build his performance around his popular love song Mthande which he did with Robbie Malinga and Thandiwe.

Still in the Capital City, lovers will be given a double dose through a live music performance by Praise Umali and a cinema experience at Crossroads Hotel Auditorium organised by cinema company Trust Networks.

Trust Networks Isaac Dangaliro said they decided to give those celebrating Valentine’s Day an atmosphere where they can enjoy a romantic movie with a good cinematic experience.

He said: “We want to help bring couples together to share in this experience. We will showcase the movie The Royal Treatment, which is about a hairdresser who works at a royal wedding who falls in love with the prince as the wedding edges closer.”

On his part, Umali said Trust Networks has brought a unique entertainment experience Malawians have missed for a long time.

“Having a place where people can watch movies together is exciting. Being a love season, it is even more exciting to add a live acoustic experience to the movie screening. Today being lover’s day, I will bring some good lovers vibes,” he said.

The musician said it is important to celebrate love through the songs that can speak on behalf of many and bring them together.

In Blantyre, urban musician Piksy will headline an event dubbed A Perfect Valentine’s Date at Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel organised strictly for couples by Sunbird Tourism Malawi plc.

The Unamata hit-maker said he will paint the event with love songs. “I have a lot of love songs such as Umakwana, Unamata and Maloto which people can relate to during this day. I believe love should be celebrated. We have to show love to each other every day, but having a special day to celebrate love is necessary,” he said.
