Nyondo, who has upon his loan-spell completion signed a three-year contract at the University of Pretoria (Amatuks), said he was still awaiting his work permit renewal.

To have the permit processed, Nyondo submitted his passport at the South Africa Home Affairs Department; hence, he was unable to travel to Benin whereas Bloemfontein Celtic held onto Frank ‘Gabadinho Mhango and Limbikani Mzava as the game did not fall on Fifa calendar for sanctioned international matches.

Nyondo was on loan from SuperSport United. Still in South Africa, Black Leopards Flames defender Harry Nyirenda, who was replaced by Sankhani Mkandawire after picking an injury in Benin, says he is now back on his feet.

Nyirenda said he collided with The Squirrels’ opponent.

Malawi need to win the return leg by a wide margin if they are to make it into the group stages after losing 1-0 in Benin.
