Bad TNM Super League week for hosts

TNM Super League travelling teams had hugely successful second- round outings, registering five wins, a loss and two draws in eight matches over the weekend.

Save for Mafco’s 1-1 draw with Civo United in Lilongwe and a goalless meeting for Kamuzu Barracks against Mighty Wanderers in Balaka and Red Lions’ 3-0 whipping by Epac FC on Saturday, the rest of the visiting teams performed well.

“We missed early chances, but there was nothing really wrong with our play,” Wanderers coach Felix Fosco said in a post-match interview in Balaka.

Blue Eagles silenced Escom United and Big Bullets by 1-0 margins at Kalulu and Balaka stadiums on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Elsewhere, Blantyre United pulled off brave 3-2 wins over Moyale Barracks on Saturday and bottom-placed Kabwafu FC on Sunday.

Brown Mizeye was United’s hero of the day on Sunday, bagging a double with the other goal scored by veteran Maxwell Chirwa. The same day, Blue Eagles’ Charles Ngosi stunned his former side, Bullets.

There was more punishment as Dixon Mbetewa Junior insulted his former Silver Strikers bosses with the sole headed first-half strike for the Lions at Silver Stadium on Sunday.

It was a second Lions’ win over Silver within seven days and third straight loss for the Bankers under coach Frank ‘Franco’ Ndawa.

Mayeso Mphanje netted the lone goal as Bvumbwe Research beat Azam Tigers 1-0 on Sunday; their first second-round win that moves them off the foot of the table on 15 points from 18 games.
