Bankers invade Blantyre Sunday

After feasting eyes on the Flames and Nigeria World Cup qualifier on Saturday, there is enough reason for fans to return to Kamuzu Stadium tomorrow as Mighty Wanderers welcome defending champions, Silver Strikers.

There are six games lined for Sunday, but the action at the giant arena is expected to be a crowd-puller. Both teams have kicked off their TNM Super League campaign on a promising note; they are yet to taste defeat.

With winger Peter Pindani engineering the goals and Rodrick Gonani and Asedi Ayami banging them in, carrying on from where they stopped last season, Silver top the standings.

And defensively, the Bankers look solid having not conceded and scored six. Wanderers defenders, led by Foster Namwela have homework to keep Strikers’ snipers at arm’s length.

With four points from a possible six, the Nomads seem to have overcome their early season blues that have in the recent past seen them drop points with reckless abandon only to pick up form late.

Wanderers coach Frank ‘Franco’ Ndawa has gone for continuity, retaining the core of the team that finished third last season.

Forward Anthony Banda’s late red-hot form was largely responsible for the Nomads’ respectable finish last season. And the good news to the Lali Lubani Road is that Banda has trusted partner in scoring Diverson Chilemba.

The former Nchalo player Chilemba tops the scorers’ chart with three goals. Silver defence, too, must be on guard; otherwise, Sunday’s battle might be more in midfield.

Other fixtures for Sunday: Escom United vs Bvumbwe Research; Blantyre United vs Big Bullets; Mafco vs Civo United; Kabwafu FC vs Moyale Barracks and Kamuzu Barracks vs Blue Eagles.
