The administrative gap between the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) and its mother body, FAM, became evidenton Saturday when banned Silver Strikers assistant coach Peter Mgangira re-appeared at the Kamuzu Stadium.

Mgangira was part of the Silver coaching panel that successfully led the Bankers to a 3-0 post-match penalty beating of Mighty Wanderers in the 2014 Standard Bank Knockout semi-final.

His presence was against Sulom’s verdict of July 31 2014 banning Mgangira “from the dressing room, technical area and touchline for one year from the date of this letter” for being found guilty of offensive behaviour during an ill-tempered game between Moyale Barracks and Silver Strikers at Mzuzu Stadium.

Mgangira confronted referee George Aziz Nyirenda on July 27 2014 at the stadium as Silver walked out of the pitch with five minutes remaining on the clock in protest of a penalty award to Moyale for Blessings Tembo’s handball. Silver were docked three points and fined K500 000.

Banda referred questions to FAM, whose competitions officer Gomezgani Zakazaka admitted that Mgangira’s ban is from all official matches “but he can watch the games from the stands. Silver Strikers has the responsibility to ensure the ban is enforced.”

Silver general secretary Mike Tembo claimed that the ban was only restricted to the league and that it could not extend to the cup match as FAM is superior to Sulom.
