Stop them if you can. Swashbuckling Big Bullets yesterday returned to the summit of the flagship Super League when they beat Silver Strikers 2-1 at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

In Balaka, the blue side of town breathed a sigh of relief when Mighty Wanderers recovered from four straight losses to register a deserved 3-0 win over rookies Chikwawa United.

It was a stuff of footballing fantasy at Silver Stadium as the People’s Team maintained their unbeaten run in a spectacular fashion against the reigning champions.

Bullets have now collected 20 points from eight games while the Bankers are still on 12th position with five points also from eight games.

In a richly exhilarating contest that stirred the passions of the big turnout, Bullets drew first blood in the 50th minute through midfield stalwart Victor Limbani after a comical goalkeeping error by Silver and Flames first-choice goalminder Charles Swini.

But the clock wasn’t lying and barely a minute later, as the fans were still digesting Limbani’s classic strike, Silver equalised through Ndaziona Chatsalira with a stunner inside the 18-yard box.

In the 71st minute, Silver fluffed a good chance when out-of-sorts wonderkid Chawanangwa Kaonga failed to capitalise on Sankhani Mkandawire’s needless error and his shot was kept out by Bullets’ keeper vincent Gona.

Silver rued that missed opportunity a minute later when defender Pilirani Zonda struck the winner after two earlier efforts by Mussa Manyenje and Henry Kabichi were thwarted. from then on, it was dancing time for the People’s Team who subjected their hosts to a sweet passing game to kill off time, it was over and done.

Silver coach Stein Chirwa conceded defeat.

“We started well, but we lost concentration in the second half. However, I commend my players, they tried,” said Chirwa.

His Bullets counterpart Elia Kananji hailed his charges for playing according to instructions.

The People’s Team was given a heroes send-off by their jubilant fans as they left the stadium.

In Balaka, Cuthbert Sineta struck a double whereas Jacob Ngwira scored the other for the Nomads who have moved a step up to second from the bottom.

They are tied on four points with Chikwawa, but the Nomads have a better goal difference.

In Mzuzu, Blue Eagles climbed to second from fourth position after thrashing rookies Karonga United 6-1 Eagles now have 19 points from nine games.
