BB contemplate last mile without little ‘Moses’

After plucking them from the rut and torture of mediocrity past the Nile River, his temper and frustrations let him down again. He will not set foot on Canaan.

Like biblical Moses, Frank ‘Gabadini’ Mhango rescued Big Bullets from imminent gloom, walked them past Escom United on Sunday. Sadly, he will miss the Promised Land—next month’s Presidential Cup final against Moyale Barracks.

The Bullets leading scorer claimed his seventh goal of the cup, almost from nothing, gliding past tackles before Benard Harawa tripped him. Gabadini converted a 20th minute penalty. Bullets were alive once again at Kamuzu Stadium.

It was a perfect time to silence a handful of fans who taunted Gabadini with wothawa mayeso chorus. The goal came against the run of play.

Escom eventually equalised through Chimwemwe Nyakamera’s 34th minute finish.

As Escom created chances in vain, Heston Munthali, who spent the better part of the game taming the demons of his visibly frustrated strike partner Gabadini, added the second.

After break, the flaws of a three-man defence against an Escom side with a three-pronged attack, whose chief menace was Noel Mkandawire, cost Bullets.

A cross from the right was half-punched by Bullets goalkeeper Owen Chaima onto the path of Mkandawire who made no mistake. Frustrated Gabadini then made a meal of slight contact to feign an injury to earn the wrath of referee Dennis Ngulube who red-carded him.

To his relief in preceding post-match penalties, Chiku Kanyenda converted the decisive post-match penalty that took Bullets to their first major final in four years. Of course, like biblical Moses who was not to reach Canaan, Gabadini will miss the final.”
