Given that the club’s constitution stipulates that players will be entitled to 40 percent, one wonders where the madness for wanting to bend the rule came from. Bullets players and their counterparts, ought to know that running a football club is not only about players’ welfare. Actually, it is this tendency of trying to please players that has thwarted club development. Clubs are going concerns. They need to invest in infrastructure. Any wonder that 50 years most of our clubs have no homes? Players must know what it is that they are signing for when they get employed. However, the cry for improved rewards from prize money should be food for thought for sponsors. Only when the stakes are handsome enough will both clubs and players get meaningfully rewarded from competitions. n

Govt, NAM at it again with Queens

Games that government and NAM are playing with the winning brand, Queens, are disheartening. How else should it be said when a trip to England, that was known months back, is delayed because visas were not applied for in time? It is in cases such as these that firm decisions must be made at the right time. When there is no money to allow us do things as planned, let us not force matters. Now, a worthwhile trip will not achieve its intended purpose, but incur huge cost. This is sad. n
