Bilila CDSS alumni appeals for support

Despite the fact that many “big” people in society went through the corridors of Bilila Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Ntcheu District, the school is now almost in ruins.

Bilila CDSS alumni liaison officer, Mtendere Thom Mizinga, has since urged the school’s former learners to help in the rehabilitation of the institution.

Speaking when the alumni donated various items such as books, chalk, sports equipment, laboratory accessories, entertainment materials such as digital satellite television amongst others worth over K1.2 million, Mizinga called on other alumni to unite in bringing Bilila back to its former glory.

“The school is in such bad shape. It is a shadow of the once famous Bilila Distance Education Centre that saw the Allan Ngumuyas, Lucius Bandas, Billy Kaundas of the world, among others, walking its corridors. Together we can do something worthwhile for the school,” he said.

Mizinga also said the alumni association plans to construct new school blocks, library and maintain the old classrooms, but needs contributions from all people of goodwill, apart from the alumni.

Bilila CDSS head teacher Boniface Malunga said dilapidated infrastructure is one of the most significant challenges the school is facing. n
