Blackout on Mutharika’s condition

There has been no official announcement or update about Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika who is in Intensive Care Unit at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe following a cardiac arrest this morning.

 

State broadcaster Malawi Broadcasting Corporation did not mention the item in its 6 pm news as widely expected.

The Office of the President and Cabinet has also maintained a tight lid on the item, raising wide speculation in and outside Malawi on the condition of the President, 78.

A top level Cabinet and government officials meeting is taking place at a minister’s residence in the capital, Lilongwe.

Sources close to the meeting say the agenda is to chart the way forward on the President’s condition.—additional reporting by Staff Reporter
