Blantyre Archdiocese sends SOS for Chiona’s mausoleum

Blantyre Archdiocese of the Catholic Church on Sunday appealed for money amounting to K7.4 million (about $22 424) to help complete construction of the mausoleum for the late Archbishop James Chiona at Limbe Cathedral cemetery.

Announcing the appeal, Limbe Cathedral parish priest Father Focus Chikweya said they are in dire need of K7.4 million to enable them to finish the mausoleum. He said the construction is being done by Dacosta, who has used his personal money to do the work so far.

Said Chikweya: “My dear Christians, the contractor of the mausoleum is about to finish the work. All the work is expected to cost about K10 million. Dacosta pledged to initially use his personal money as we couldn’t instantly raise the required amount.

“We now owe Dacosta K7.4 million. Archbishop Tarcisio Ziyaye of Blantyre Archdiocese is appealing to Christians to contribute generously towards the cost of the mausoleum.”

Dacosta started constructing the mausoleum in August this year. Father Chikweya could not indicate when Dacosta would finish building the mausoleum.
