Blantyre DHO promotes reversible contraceptive
Blantyre District Health Office (DHO), with funding from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has taken long-acting reversible contraceptive (Larc) to Chikowa Health Centre in Traditional Authority (T/A) Kunthembwe in Blantyre.
Speaking during Larc social mobilisation campaign at Chikuli in Chileka, Blantyre DHO family planning coordinator Austin Kapira said the DHO has trained two nurses to administer Larc to women seeking them.
Kapira said Larc’s introduction will help in saving lives of mothers who were dying because of giving birth frequently.
“The initiative, which is safe and effective, will also help save lives of children who were dying due to malnutrition, especially in circumstances where their mothers fail to exclusively breastfeed them,” said Kapira.
Traditional Authority (T/A) Kunthembwe welcomed the initiative.
