Blantyre DHO to deploy ambulances in healthy facilities

The Blantyre District Health Office says it will deploy ambulances to sixteen healthy facilities in the district to ease mobility challenges during referrals.

In an interview on Friday, District Health Officer Medson Matchaya said some of these ambulances will be servicing two health facilities.

“We have twenty six health facilities in Blantyre and now that we have enough ambulances, we think it is important to deploy them to some health centres and clinics for swift responses during emergencies,” he said.

Group Village Headman Chilipa from Traditional Authority Makata expressed joy upon learning that Makata health centre will have its own ambulance.

He said  the ambulance will ease mobility challenges especially among expectant mothers who mostly deliver at Mlambe Mission hospital located ten kilometers away from the health centre.
