Blantyre started to get into the Airtel Money Netball Championships mood yesterday as regional ambassadors started arriving for the national finals at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) this weekend.

According to Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) general secretary Carol Bapu, teams from Eastern, Central and Northern regions were advised to arrive in Blantyre between yesterday and today ready for the start of the three-day national encounters tomorrow.

“We want all the teams to get into the netball court with fresh minds and energetic bodies so that the finals should be competitive,” said Bapu.

Meanwhile, seeded Blantyre-based netball giants Complex Tigresses and Diamonds have intensified their preparations for the finals at the College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex and BYC respectively.

Diamonds coach Griffin Saenda said they will leave no stone unturned to win the inaugural Airtel Money Netball Trophy.

Diamonds and Tigresses were seeded alongside another Southern Region outfit MTL Queens; Central Region giants Blue Eagles Sisters, Civonets and Mafco Soldiers and Northern Region giants Lameck Queens and Karonga Queens.

The seeded sides will battle for the Airtel Money crown against the eight teams that made it through the qualifiers at regional level. The eight outfits are Woget Stars and Young Gals from the South; Green Sisters and Splash Sisters from the Centre; Zomba Airwing and Prison Sisters from the East, and Mimosa Queens and Young Sisters from the North.
