The Malawi Police Service (MPS) team is expected to travel to the Shire Valley immediately after the league match against hosts Silver Strikers in Lilongwe on Saturday, according to Eagles team manager Gabriel Chirwa.

“Football is a powerful sport that brings a lot of people together and we would like to take advantage of this to raise awareness about the importance of fighting against a number of vices that go unreported in Chikwawa District,” Chirwa said.

The match will coincide with the launch of a K150 000 East Bank Goodson Phiri Super Cup, which is expected to run for two months.

According to the sponsor of the forthcoming contest Goodson Gringo Phiri, the match and the competition will help to expose unearthed football talents from his home district.

“It pains me to note that from time immemorial, no footballer from the area I come from has ever played in the Super League. But now this is an opportunity for us to expose our soccer gems,” he said. n
