Blunt weekend for SA-based Flames stars

The scoring forms of South Africa-based Malawian professionals came to an abrupt halt last weekend as none of them scored when their clubs played in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The much expected battle for goals between GabadinhoMhango and Robert Ng’ambi proved fruitless on Sunday when their respective clubs Bloemfontein Celtic and Platinum Stars faced off at Sebothelo Stadium where Gabadinho’s team triumphed 1-0 to move a single step to position eight on the log table.

Probably their zeal to score goals was affected by the yellow cards they obtained during the match. Gabadinho, whose only notable chance went wide, was booked in the 38th minute while Ng’ambi was booked in the 77th minute. The two have scored seven goals apiece, three behind top scorer Bernard Parker of Kaizer Chiefs.

Defender Limbikani Mzava could hardly make an impact in the game as he only played in extra time after being introduced in the 90th minute.

In another PSL encounter, Esau Kanyenda’s Polokwane City beat Atusaye Nyondo’s University of Pretoria 2-1 on Saturday, but none of the Malawians scored. Kanyenda and Nyondo have scored four and seven goals respectively.

Robin Ngalande, who has scored three goals this season, did not feature when Wits University beat Mpumalanga Black Aces 2-1. Peter Wadabwa did also not feature when Lemontville Golden Arrows lost 0-1 to Maritzburg United on Sunday.
