Boma lead in Gateway netball tournament

Boma Sisters have maintained their grip at the top in the Gateway Netball Challenge Cup after collecting full points in two games in the Lilongwe Urban Zone on Tuesday.

They beat Vanessa 18-6 in their first game of the day and Area 30 Sisters 17-9 in the second fixture played at Gateway Complex Court.

Following the triumph, Boma have safeguarded the top spot with11 points from six games—three points ahead of Green Sisters, who also had successful fixtures.

Boma have won five games and drawn once.

Their coach, Tereza Chipolopolo, said they are looking forward to winning the championship.

“We don’t want to drop from the top position. Our aim is to play at the regional level. We have good players and they are improving with each game played,” said Chipolopolo.

Green Sisters, who are on second position with nine points from five games, stunned Vanessa 14-8 and Jungles 14-9. They also beat Kalulu 21-4 in their last game of the day.

Third-placed Katalama Sisters had mixed fortunes, bagging two points from possible six.

They beat Area 30 Sisters 10-8 and went down to Vanessa and Hasrod 9-14 and 10-12, respectively. 

They have seven points from six games in the 10-member league.

In other results, Jungle collected full points after beating Kalulu 15-1 and Vanessa 15-10. Kalulu also lost 9-2 to Area 30

In Lilongwe Rural Zone, games were played at Kumudzi Eco Learning Centre where Mphalapala beat Mazengera 7-6 while Avida beat Rio 10-9. Mitundu Sisters beat Chitedze Queens 18-11.

Lilongwe and Districts Netball league (LDNL) chairperson Charity Malanga said the competition is achieving the mission of unveiling hidden talent. n
