Netrade has sponsored Southern Region Netball Committee (SRNC) League to the tune of K8 million.

During the unveiling of the sponsorship in Blantyre yesterday, Netrade marketing manager Murray Evans, whose firm supplies Botsalt, said their support aims at promoting netball and creating awareness about the salt brand.

“This marks a new chapter in our company’s history as we commit to sponsoring the league,” he said.

“When SRNC approached us seeking sponsorship, we did not hesitate because we support the Malawi Queens, who are the pride of the nation on the international stage, and we recognise that it is women that mostly use our product in the kitchen.”

SRNC chairperson Judith Chalusa thanked Botsalt for the sponsorship, saying it brings joy to the committee and complements their effort to promote the sport.

Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) president Khungekile Matiya described the sponsorship as a boost to netball development.

Nevertheless, Matiya said the league will exclude teams that compete in the Blantyre and Districts Netball League (BDNL).

Besides the seven districts from the Southern Region Netball Zone, namely Blantyre, Mwanza, Neno, Thyolo, Mulanje, Nsanje and Chikwawa, the league includes outfits from districts in the Eastern Region Netball Zone, namely Balaka, Machinga, Mangochi, Zomba, Chiradzulu and Phalombe.

Each district is expected to register 10 teams and produce a representative for the finals that will take place at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC). Champions will receive K500 000 while runners-up and third-positioned team will get K300 000 and K200 000, respectively.

The competition will run from May to October this year.
