Boxer Msoliza’s ban lifted
Boxer Ernest Msoliza can now afford a smile thanks to the Northern Region Boxing Committee’s (NRBC) decision to lift a ban imposed on him for indiscipline.
Msoliza was slapped with a six-month suspension from participating in professional boxing within or outside Malawi on November 17 last year for causing chaos during his welterweight non-title fight against Mchinji pugilist Charles Misanjo at Obligado Leisure Park in Mzuzu.
The Mzuzu-based boxer assaulted Misanjo, who had already been declared winner on technical knockout in the second-round of their eight-round fight.
Malawi Professional Boxing Committee president Lonzoe Zimba, who watched the fight, described Msoliza’s conduct as unethical. The ban was expected to expire on April 17, 2014.
But Msoliza wrote the committee on February 24, 2014, vowing he would never repeat the mistakes and prayed for forgiveness.
His coach Gabriel Kondowe in an interview thanked the committee for considering the future of the 23-year-old boxer.
NRBC chairperson Chandiwira Moyo confirmed lifting the ban, saying the committee punished Msoliza so that others should learn.
Msoliza moved to Northern Region two years ago alongside Felix Mwamaso from Sun Village Boxing Club.
