Britam Insurance closing 2016 on high note

Britam Insurance Company says the two last quarters of 2016 were successful in business.

Speaking in Blantyre during the company’s Christmas party, Chief Executive Officer Grant Mwenechanya said though the year started on a bad note things turned around towards the end.

He attributed the success to dedication and hard work among employees particularly the sales team which managed to do what he called a lot of business soliciting in tough economic environment.

“Due to tough economic environment, a lot of customers were struggling to pay insurance premiums but the situation changed due to the hard working spirit by members of staff. I commend you all for the great job,” he said.

He expressed hope that 2017 will bring a lot of business success looking at the projections of Gross Domestic Products (GDP) and all economic fundamentals.

“We are very hopeful that the economy may turn around, penetration ratio of insurance in Malawi is minimal at least around 1.5 to 2 percent but we will concentrate on the untapped market to increase,” he added.

During the event, three longest serving employees were awarded with certificates and money ranging from K800 000 to K1 million.

Khungekile Matiya, the longest serving employee who has been with the company for 15 years encouraged  fellow employees to persevere and give their best for the success of the company.

“It has been a tough road, I have seen the company change from Royal Insurance to Real Insurance and to Britam, there has been so much pressure, I have seen people come and go but God has always been on my side and I thank you all for the support,” she said.
