Company has pumped K500 000 into Southern Region (SR) Socials Invitational Football Tournament scheduled for early December in Blantyre.

During cheque presentation at the company’s headquarters in Blantyre last weekend, Britam marketing and product development manager Serena Nkhoma declared their commitment to supporting social football.

“We are aware that social football provides a viable platform for interaction with our clients. Therefore, this demonstration marks the beginning of our involvement in sports.  If all goes well, we will come back bigger and better next year,” she said.

While expressing gratitude to the insurance firm for the kind gesture, SR Socials team manager Thomas Julius said the coming contest will involve four teams, including three other teams that will be perceived strong and well-organised in the region.

He added that SR Socials team, which comprises journalists and sports administrators, will also use the event to prepare to defend the Sports Administrators and Journalists (SAJ) National Tournament title next year.

“What Britam has done is commendable and will go a long way in promoting social football, which mostly involves business captains and corporate leaders. We, therefore, ask others to follow this kind gesture,” said Julius.

SR Socials won the SAJ title early this year after beating Central Region (CR) Socials on post-match penalties at Mpira ground in Chiwembe Township, Blantyre.n
