Britam supports IIM annual conference

Britam Insurance Company has donated K5 million to the Insurance Institute of Malawi (IIM) to support its upcoming annual conference, scheduled for August 29th-31st in Mangochi.

This year’s conference will be held under the theme, “Transforming Malawi through Insurance Innovation, Inclusion, and Growth towards MW2063.”

Speaking during the cheque handover ceremony, Britam Insurance Company’s country sales manager, Maclonex Mwase, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting IIM’s activities.

“We believe the annual lakeshore conference provides a platform for various leaders in the insurance industry to meet and discuss issues affecting the sector. The insurance penetration rate in Malawi remains low, and our sponsorship will help address this challenge,” said Mwase.

He also expressed optimism about the future of the industry, noting that changes are underway and that Britam is exploring new ways to navigate the evolving landscape.

IIM President Ruben Kamanga praised Britam for its continued support, especially during the institute’s annual conferences.

He said: “This year’s theme aligns with the MW2063 agenda, where we aim to increase insurance penetration from 2.5 percent to 40 percent.

“In the past, insurance was primarily accessible in urban centers, but we are now reaching out to districts to raise awareness and educate the public on the benefits of insurance.”
