During the presentation at Surestream Stadium on Tuesday, Chiutsi said it is their wish to see learners in six education zones under his jurisdiction such as Zingwangwa, Chilomoni, Ndirande, Limbe, Bangwe and South Lunzu, get involved in sports.

According to the school’s head teacher Peter Wonondo, the robbers broke into their storeroom and went away with 12 soccer and netballs, sports uniforms and other sports paraphernalia.

“It was shocking to note that when we are trying our best to revive sports in schools, some individuals are frustrating our efforts. We need to be patriotic so that our children grow healthier through sports,” Chiutsi said.

He also asked the corporate world and well-wishers to help in uplifting the standards of sports in schools by donating sports equipment.

“We noted through our recent talent identification exercises with Football Association of Malawi [FAM] technical director John Kaputa that most pupils have talents, but are not involved in sports due to lack of sports equipment,” Chiutsi said.

Namiwawa Primary School, which was led by football team captain Demister Bhima and his netball counterpart Florence Shaba, finished second during this year’s FAM Under-14 Cup and have reached the quarter-finals of the Blantyre City Mayor’s Trophy.
