Blantyre United, who are the only team without a sponsor in the flagship Super League, have intensified their marketing drive by going into partnership with six companies.

BT United marketing and public relations officer Prince Jere confirmed the establishment of partnerships between the team and Atameje School of Driving, Pro Fitness Gym, Super Cream Milk, City Pharmaceuticals and Go TV and website designers Reflex Resolutions.

“We have stepped up the drive to turn our team into a commercial entity through establishing partnerships with various companies and it looks promising.

“We are the only team in the Super League that has no sponsor and we feel such initiatives will help boost our finances,” said Jere.

“On Wednesday, United sealed a deal with Atameje Driving School who have agreed to offer driving lessons to our players at a very reduced price as one way of empowering them.

“The development means that some of our players, who did not have a chance to proceed with education, will be offered driving lessons to find something to fall back on by being employed as drivers,” said Jere.

Atameje managing director, Fransisco Chagunda, said the gesture was one way of helping United who are one of the most promising teams in the country.

“They do not have sponsorship and, yet, they are one of the most promising teams in the Super League. We felt it wise to assist them in our own small way,” he said.

Chagunda also said the intention is to go into a long-term partnership with the club through sponsorship of equipment.

United have also been offered a deal by Pro Fitness Gym whereby their players will be allowed to train at reduced rates.

“Super Cream Milk have offered to be giving us milk whenever we have games whereas City Pharmaceuticals will be offering us medicine at affordable prices. The offer extends to the players’ immediate families.

“As for GO TV, we’ll be selling their decorders at Ndirande Flats from which we shall be getting commission,” Jere said.

He said Reflex Resolution has offered to design a website for the club to help it in its marketing initiatives.

One of the club’s key players Brown ‘Fisi Matama’ Mizeyi thanked all the companies for their assistance.

“We are very thankful to all these companies because their gesture will go a long way to motivate us as players.

“We are also appealing to other companies to emulate the gestures,” said Mizeyi.

United finished the league on an enviable third position last season.
