Blantyre Zero seem to have turned the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Southern Region Women Football Cup into personal property after beating Ntopwa Super Queens 1-0 to defend the title for the fourth time.

Mary Chavinda’s lone goal ensured that Zero maintain regional glory since 2010.

However, Zero’s trainer Karen Chawula said while they feel happy with the regional glory, their focus is on winning their first-ever title at national level during the national finals in Blantyre on October 17.

Despite that, both Zero and Ntopwa have qualified for the national finals as the National Women Football Committee (NWFC) allows the best two teams from the hosting region to have two teams in the national finals. The Centre and the North will only contribute regional champions each.

In the Central Region, Skippers FC earned a 12-0 semi-final triumph over Little Gunners at Kamuzu Institute for Sports (KIS) on Saturday to set up a regional final against their rivals DD Sunshine this weekend.

Sunshine booked a regional final ticket last week with 14-0 victory over Chilinde Queens.

Northern Region finals will be played on October 7 at Luwinga Technical Centre ground between Moyale Sisters and Kwaito Sisters.

Ekwendeni will face Nkombezi Sisters in third-placed match.
