Big Bullets have donated K300 000 (about $12 000) towards the Cancer Unit at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre.

The donation was part of the K1 million (about $4 000) prize which they won after beating arch-rivals Mighty Wanderers in the Carlsberg Malawi Shield match.

Bullets general secretary Higger Mkandawire said the donation was part of the club’s social responsibility.

“We chose the Cancer Unit of the QECH because they have a project to construct a ward for cancer patients. Cancer is killing many people and across the world, there are nearly 12 million new cases every year. We, therefore, thought it wise to support the cause,” said Mkandawire.

Carlsberg Malawi announced prior to its football sponsorship launch that part of the prize money would be donated to a charity cause of the winner’s choice.

From the K1 million, Bullets received K500 000 while K200 000 was shared among ex-footballers association and veterans belonging to Bullets and Wanderers.
